Christopher Bacolas on Formal Speeches in The Classroom

Many first time college students find difficulty in giving an effective formal speech. Typical problems students may have with giving public speeches include: lack of rehearsal, lack of knowledge of the subject matter and poor delivery of the speech. When students rehearse, they are given the opportunity to connect with the audience by talking with them rather than reading straight from their notes. Research from many different resources helps to give one the knowledge and information they need to be prepared for their presentation. Speaking clearly and confidently is essential in delivering a good speech. When one finishes giving a formal speech it is important to return to the key themes and summarize what has been covered.
